Terms of Use

The rules for using this site. They are short because there is little to negotiate: the test is free, the result belongs to you, and the handful of things worth agreeing in advance are set out below.

What this document is about

This site lets you answer 166 questions about temperament, see where you land on eight scales, read which of the four temperaments carry your profile, compare a pair, and buy an extended reading of that same result.

Using the site means accepting these rules. If they do not suit you, the honest answer is to close the tab. The site is run by the person named in the details at the foot of this page.

What happens to your data is a separate document: see the Privacy Policy.

What is free and what is paid

Answering the questions and reading the base result costs nothing, needs no account, and has no step in the middle where the result suddenly locks. The formula, the portrait, the eight scales, what stands out and the two axes stay open to everyone.

What is paid for is depth on the same result: one payment opens the six life spheres, the scale library and the written analysis built from your own numbers. What it contains and what it costs are shown before you pay, and the purchase itself has its own rules in the Terms of Sale.

An account is optional. It exists to hold your history in one place, not to unlock anything that would otherwise be closed.

What the result is not

This measures ordinary traits in ordinary people through a self report questionnaire. It is not a diagnosis.

It is not a medical or psychiatric instrument and it says nothing about disorders. It does not stand in for a conversation with a doctor or a psychologist.

It is also not a screening tool. Do not use a result to hire, fire, admit, reject or grade another person. The questionnaire was not built for it, and anything self reported becomes easy to game the moment something is riding on the answers.

Decisions you make about your own life after reading a result are yours to make and yours to own.

The scales and the temperament model here are our own work built on open academic tradition. This test is not an adaptation of any commercial inventory and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the publishers of one. Trademarks belong to their owners.

Where the material comes from

The four temperaments come from a tradition that runs from Hippocrates and Galen through Kant and Wundt to modern trait research. Nobody owns that tradition and we make no claim on it.

The eight scales, the formula that turns them into a profile, the 166 items and every word of interpretation on this site were written here. Sources and the reasoning behind the model are set out on the science page when it is published.

The English items are the canon. Items in other languages are written by us for those languages rather than translated line by line, and the scoring always runs on the same scale keys regardless of the language you answered in.

Your account

An account needs a working email address and a password. Keep the password to yourself: whoever has it has your history.

One account is meant for one person. Tell us if you think somebody else got into yours and we will help you close it or move it to another address.

You can ask us to delete the account along with what is attached to it and we will. We can suspend an account used to attack the site, to get around payment, or to harm other people.

How the site may be used

Use it the way a person uses a site. What we ask you not to do is short and predictable.

  • Do not try to break the site, flood it, or work around the limits that keep it usable for everyone else.
  • Do not harvest the questions, the interpretations or the analyses in bulk, by hand or by script, and do not republish them as your own material.
  • Do not try to open a paid analysis without paying for it, and do not resell one as a service of your own.
  • Do not run other people's data through this site without their knowledge.

Search engine crawlers are welcome inside the rules published in our robots file.

Rights to the content

The texts, the item bank, the scale descriptions, the profile names, the illustrations, the visual design and the code are ours. Copying them wholesale onto another site is not allowed. Quoting a passage with a link back is fine and welcome.

The analysis you buy is yours to keep, read, print and show to whoever you want. What you cannot do is republish it as a template or resell it as a product.

What we do and do not promise

We promise the test is scored honestly, that the formula is the one we describe, and that a purchased analysis is generated and delivered to you.

We do not promise the site is available without interruption. It can go down, change or be rebuilt. If a purchased analysis fails to generate, the Terms of Sale say what happens next.

The site is provided as it is. We are not liable for decisions you take on the strength of a result, for how somebody reads a link you sent them, or for losses that follow from using the site, as far as the law lets us say so. Where the law does not allow that, our liability is capped at what you paid us.

Changes, law and language

The date of the current text sits at the bottom of this page. When something that matters changes, we move that date instead of swapping the text out quietly.

These rules are governed by the law of the country where the operator is established. That does not strip a consumer of the mandatory protections of their own country of residence.

The document is published in every language the site speaks. Translations exist for convenience, and where a translation and the English text disagree, the English text governs.
